1. Set your goals and calculate your numbers

Includes a fun spreadsheet to help with the math.

The purpose of this program is for you to develop a sales and marketing system for your business - so that you can achieve your goals and vision.

So that's where we'll start - with these critical questions:

  • How much money you want to make
  • How many hours you want to work
  • What you want your business to look like in the future and how you want it to grow

In this unit, you'll begin by making all the necessary calculations to make sure what you're creating is possible and sustainable.

2. Package and price your services

Create an "easy to buy" service that matches up to what your clients are looking for.

Great businesses are built on great service offers. Your service offer/package needs to solve a problem for your ideal clients and leave them feeling grateful, happy and satisfied.

A stellar service offer leads to:

  • Referrals (the best kind of marketing ever - word of mouth)
  • Testimonials (social proof that will help you sign up additional clients)
  • Confidence that what you're selling really works - so you'll feel good promoting it and standing behind it.
  • Premium rates - this level of service warrants a higher price tag. Higher rates mean fewer sales in order to meet your financial goals.

In this module, you'll learn 3 different options for packaging your services - and how to set your prices. (With another great spreadsheet to help you choose the right price!)

3. Build a sales and marketing system

Learn how to do that mysterious thing represented by the blue arrow.

Learn what you need to do in order to build an effective and ethical client acquisition system. (No skeezy tactics here, just honest communication.)

Our mission: make it easy for people to buy!

  • How people make buying decisions
  • The 4 pieces you need to have in place
  • How they need to be linked together in order to work. (If your marketing efforts are falling flat now, the problem will be in one of these areas!)

In this unit, you'll get an overview of what you'll need to build (or you can assess what you already have in place.) You'll also get a checklist of exactly what to do.

4. Find and describe your ideal clients

They like you? They need you? They have money to pay? Woo hoo!

Everything you do in your business revolves around your ideal clients. You'll write your marketing materials for them, you'll develop your service offers for them, your money will come from them.

Your ideal clients are the ones who are out there waiting for you.

  • They have a problem that you can help solve - or a desire that you can help fulfill
  • They have compatible values and personality traits (you like them...and they like you!)
  • They are ready, willing and able to pay you (ah...you like them already, yes?)

For a unique business like yours - demographic profiles (choosing a target market based on gender, age, occupation, etc.) are usually useless. Instead, you'll learn to create a profile based on their problems, desires, values and personality traits.

5. Write the sales copy for your marketing materials

This looks awesome! I must buy it!

If people don't understand what you're selling or how it can help them, they won't buy. The purpose of your sales copy is to fully describe what you offer in a way that appeals to your ideal clients.

What effective sales copy can do for you:

  • Faster sales conversations because your website and marketing materials have done 80% of the selling for you
  • Better search engine results because you'll be describing your services in the words that your ideal clients would use
  • You'll also feel more confidence in the value of what you offer.

In this module:

  • Learn how to get great testimonials
  • Learn how to format your sales pages for easier readability
  • Write the copy for your service packages

6. Create an Effective Website

My computer might be old - but my website is awesome!

Your website is the most powerful sales and marketing tool you have - and for people with unique and hard to explain businesses - a GOOD website is a must-have.

A good website:

  • Educates prospective clients about your services in your absence
  • Allows people to learn about you in a risk-free way
  • Makes it easy for people who have been referred to you to buy (number one cause of "I don't get referrals anymore" = bad or non-existent website)

Learn:

  • What to write on each page: home, about, services
  • How to structure your navigation menu
  • Where to place your sales pages and how to build in calls to action

7. Develop your sales conversation

The key to successful "selling"? Asking questions and listening.

It's not enough to simply "get the word out there" - at some point, you will need to talk to people who are interested in working with you.

For a lot of people in helping professions, the idea of "selling" isn't comfortable. It brings to mind pushy used car salespeople.

Structuring your sales conversation in the form of a Discovery/Clarity/Strategy Session makes "selling" really easy and (almost) fun. It allows you to:

  • Provide a useful and valuable experience for your prospective client and give them an example of what it would be like to work with you - without giving away your services for free
  • Use your existing skills (coaching, listening, being a nice caring person)
  • Take the pressure off of both parties

One of my clients described this method as more like counselling than selling.

8. Choose a lead generation strategy

This module is all about attracting the attention of strangers who need your services.

Once you have all of the above in place, you can get serious about bringing more "strangers who need your services" into the picture.

  • How to network effectively
  • Advertising options - and how to choose the right one for your business
  • How to use direct mail, email, cold calling, or social media to reach out to prospective clients
  • How to generate leads through blogging, writing articles, creating videos or podcasting

9. Create follow up & keep in touch systems

When it's done well - people want to hear from you.

The final piece of your client acquisition system is your follow up and keep in touch systems.

You need these systems so that:

  • Potential clients don't slip through the cracks because you forgot to get back to them
  • You show up consistently so that when people are ready to buy, they remember you

This modules covers setting up both systems (yes! they are different!)

Why I'm doing it this way - my not-so-hidden agenda

According to "The Experts" I'm doing this wrong

Do what I do. It's guaranteed! Even though YOU are not ME and our situations are entirely different...

I know. You figured that out right away with the price listed at the TOP of the page!

It's pretty common in the "Internet Marketing Develop an Online Course" world to hear the following advice:

  • Don't do a course that covers a lot of territory. Dive deep into a single topic. This way your learners don't get everything they need and you can sell them MORE later on!
  • Make sure you offer "done for you" or a "proven blueprint." No one wants to work these days! Or be creative. They just want to copy someone's stuff.
  • Charge $2,000 (sorry...$1,997). Because those 6 videos? They're totally worth it!
  • Put all your effort into marketing. The actual product doesn't even matter - most people don't finish what they buy anyhow. Just blather on into a camera and call it a course.
  • Create urgency and false scarcity with a big launch. Limited time only! Buy today or lose out! Cart closes in 37 seconds.

That advice "The Experts" give? It's all one sided.

What about me? I'm more than just a wallet, you know.

The problem with The Experts is that they are solely focused on themselves. All of their ideas and suggestions are designed to benefit the person selling the program at the expense of the person buying the program.

Instead of seeing their learners as "people" - they see them as numbers. Conversion stats. Refund rates. Tiny anonymous wallets contributing to their "7 figure launches."

I don't see the world that way and I don't run my business that way. (And this is the essence of a YOU Shaped Business: instead of copying the crowd, you find your own way - based on your values and what you believe to be right.)
